Parking tickets go paperless

UK Parking Control have issued the following update for Aberdeen Park:

From Wednesday 1st February 2023, Parking Charge Notices (Parking Tickets) will be virtual rather than a yellow ticket in a wallet attached to the windscreen. This is to help reduce UKPC’s usage of plastic wallets, paper and printers, which all have a significant carbon footprint. All contraventions of parking rules will come through via UKPC’s verification function within a 48hr period and be verified before approaching the DVLA for the registered keeper’s information. We will request the registered keepers’ details and send a “Notice to Keeper” to the motorist via post within days of the contravention being issued. The motorist can still appeal the contravention as per our statutory process.

If you have any issue with the PCN that has been issued you may find it helpful to contact Ian Mylam at ianmylam@blueyonder.co.uk or 07771 604338.

Car charging point

Aberdeen Park now has an Electric Vehicle charging point. It is located in lamppost AB12 - the new one between number 19 and the Newcombe Estate, across the road from the Highbury Centre. We hope to have a designated parking bay marked out shortly, but in the meantime it would be helpful if cars were not parked alongside the charging point.

The charger is provided by Ubitricity (which is part of the Shell network) and it is operated by SimpleSocket. Both ordinary charging cables and smart charging cables are compatible with the socket. To use the charger, you simply scan the QR code displayed on the sign on the lamppost and then follow the step by step guidance, providing your contact details and payment details. There is no need to register in advance. The cost of charging is £0.35 to plug-in and then £0.32 per kWh. This includes VAT. It is NOT a rapid charger.

Please note that APMC does not add any additional costs to the charging fees above.

Only cars with a valid parking permit may use the charging point. Cars without a permit may receive a parking ticket from UKPC.

Street lighting changes - 12 Nov 2022

We are replacing the lanterns on 34 of our street lights on Saturday 12th November 2022. The new lanterns will have LED bulbs in place of the old sodium bulbs. That will leave just 4 sodium bulbs, which will be changed when we replace the 4 associated lampposts; this will happen soon but we don’t yet have a delivery date for them. We have 42 lampposts in total, of which 4 were fully replaced in March 2022.

Annual Tree Maintenance June 2021

MAINTENANCE OF ABERDEEN PARK TREES

The regular pruning of the street trees will be carried out by Gareth Wellburn, our tree surgeon, in the week of 21st June. 2021

As is standard and required practice, Gareth submitted a summary of the proposed work to Gavin Rees, Islington’s Tree Officer. Gavin came to review the trees; in discussion with Gareth, and with reference to the report supplied by Greenwood Arboriculture, including the detailed internal decay-detection information, it has been decided that the horse chestnut outside no. 79 should be removed. The alternative strategy – the substantial reduction (pollard) of the tree crown to a point 3m below the most recent pruning points, with additional pruning in response to substantial decay located at the base of the tree – would allow the tree to be retained a little longer but would also significantly reduce its amenity value as well as be detrimental to its condition as large pruning wounds would be created. Gavin Rees does not regularly approve tree-removal in the borough and this decision is for arboricultural reasons. The tree will be removed soon and will be replaced later in the year.

Road works on Highbury Grove

Cadent are carrying out gas mains replacement works on Highbury Grove near the junction with Aberdeen Park.  Work will start on 2nd November for approximately 20 days.

As a preliminary stage they first need to carry out some investigation work, drilling trial holes and inserting cameras into the gas main.  Details of their plans are in the attached documents.

Cadent advise that they currently intend to return in January 2021 to complete the actual replacement work (for a longer period).

The gate leading to Aberdeen Road will be opened for the duration of these works – and Cadent have assured us that they will position the traffic lights in a way that will prevent queuing traffic from blocking the entrance and exit to Aberdeen Park.

CCTV EGM 3rd November 2020

At the online Annual General Meeting in July 2020, the members of the Company asked the Board of APMC to investigate an upgrade to the Aberdeen Park CCTV system. The results of this investigation suggest an upgrade to the system involving the installation of a further 5 cameras.  Full details of the proposal are available in the CCTV section of this website

Whether or not the upgrade is carried out is the decision of the company members and an Extraordinary General Meeting will be held online to determine this on 3rd November 2020.

As the meeting is about upgrading the existing system and its associated cost (which will be met by APMC funds already held on account) it is proposed that only members of the company need to attend the meeting.  You can be a member of the company if you are a freeholder or own a lease of more than 21 years.   If you are eligible to be a member but have not applied please contact the company secretary, Sara Patel (sarapatel3@aol.com)

If you are not a member but would still like to attend the meeting, you are very welcome to do so but you will be unable to vote.

If you wish to attend this Zoom event you need to register in advance. The link for registration is:

Resurfacing October 12th-14th

We are resurfacing two stretches of tarmac on Monday 12th to Wednesday 14th October:

  • Escuan Lodge to The Woodlands: From the T-junction outside Escuan Lodge / number 19 along to the road hump that sits between number 65 and The Woodlands.

  • The church to number 90: From the road hump outside the church, between Aberdeen Court / number 43, along to the road hump that sits between numbers 51 & 90.

IT IS VITALLY IMPORTANT THAT THERE ARE NO CARS ANYWHERE in these areas on the planned dates. PLEASE DO NOT PARK in either area on these days. And please do not park within 10 metres either side of the areas to be resurfaced (so the contractors have space to manoeuvre their equipment).

Work will be taking place each day in both areas, so there will inevitably be some disruption to the usual traffic flows.

Note that access to the spur section of the road will be possible at all times, via one way round or the other. In addition, the gate at the spur entrance to Aberdeen Road will be open throughout to help minimise disruption.
