CCTV

Background

In October 2017 an Extraordinary General Meeting of Aberdeen Park Maintenance Company (APMC) voted in favour of installing a CCTV system in Aberdeen Park. Installation of the cameras, other equipment and signs alerting people to the presence of CCTV was completed and the system made operational in October 2018.

In November 2020 an extension of the existing system to cover areas which had been found to have insufficient coverage was approved by an Extraordinary General Meeting of APMC and the additional equipment was installed in March 2021.

The purpose of the CCTV is to secure the safety and well-being of residents and visitors by acting as a deterrent to crime and by recording activities within Aberdeen Park to identify criminal activity.

The CCTV system is administered in accordance with the law and in accordance with the APMC CCTV policy (the full policy is available using the link at the bottom of this page).

There is full camera coverage of the road and pavements of Aberdeen Park, but cameras do not focus on private homes or gardens: private property is obscured from any recording. Recording takes place 24 hours a day but whilst the system is designed to ensure maximum effectiveness and efficiency, it is not possible to guarantee that the system will cover or detect every single incident taking place within the area covered. Please note that there is no live monitoring of the recorded footage and images are only stored for 30 days from the date of recording.

Warning signs or notices have been placed at all access routes into AP in accordance with the Code of Practice of the Information Commissioner. A Privacy Impact Assessment was carried out and a copy of this can be requested by email from the Company Secretary at sarapatel3@aol.com

APMC is registered with the Information Commissioner’s Office under the terms of the Data Protection Act 1998 (DPA) and will seek to comply with the requirements of the DPA and the Commissioner’s Code of Practice. APMC will treat the system and all information, documents, and recordings obtained and used as data which is protected by the DPA.

Requests for CCTV footage

Release of images is strictly controlled in accordance with the APMC CCTV policy mentioned above. In the first instance members of the CCTV team will review footage upon receipt of a CCTV request form. In most cases we will review footage only if the incident has been reported to the police and any relevant footage will be released only to the Police or other authorised body. In order to assist the volunteers who make up this team, information provided should be as detailed as possible, in particular the time interval within which an incident took place should be as short as possible, ideally no more than 3 hours. The form is available by clicking the link at the bottom of the page or by sending an email request to cctv@aberdeenpark.com.
